Mental Health Clinician (Internship) - Children's Program

Job Information

Pay: $20.00/hr. 

NOTE: The internship is part-time and unpaid for the first 90 days. After the successful completion of the interns first 90 days & 90 day Review, there is an opportunity to transition to a full-time paid internship. 


Job Types: Part-time internship positions available. *NOTE: This position requires the intern to provide individual counseling services in the office and in-home.


Company Description: People Empowering People of AZ Inc., has been serving the mental health needs of Arizona families for more than 15 years. Our agency specializes in providing outpatient services to the SMI, GMH, and SU Populations across the valley. We treat a number of mental health disorders. Our focus is to help individuals heal, energize and become aware of their inner strengths.


Job Summary: The Clinical Intern is responsible for providing mental health assessment, treatment planning, and counseling intervention services, as well as continually monitoring and documenting patient progress and outcomes. The Clinical Intern functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team, coordinating care and reporting patient progress and wellbeing to the clinical team and involved parties in accordance with the patient’s individualized treatment plan. The Clinical Intern provides services to patients within the home, office or community as agreed upon. The Clinical Intern shall utilize clinically approved modalities, including but not limited to: the use of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused, Brief Solution, and Focused therapies in accordance with their training and certifications.

Job Responsibilities:

  • The Clinical Intern will provide counseling services based on mental health, psychological and human development theories, principles, and techniques to adults, children, families, and groups
  • The Clinical Intern will provide psycho education to patients, providing information regarding mental health, emotional disorders or behavioral health
  • The Clinical Intern will receive weekly individual and group supervision.
  • Participates in staffings, case conferences, or other meetings with or without the patient or the patient’s family participating; when appropriate and not Case Managed by a PNO
  • The Clinical Intern will facilitate human development and adjustment; assess and facilitate career development; treat interpersonal relationship issues and nervous, mental and emotional disorders that are cognitive, affective or behavioral, and manage symptoms of mental illness
  • Provides outreach and follow-up of services
  • Ensures the development and implementation of transition, discharge and aftercare plans prior to discontinuation of behavioral health services
  • performs all case management functions associated with caseload including completing the assessment and services planning processes; including identifying the need for further or specialty evaluations
  • Maintains the patient's comprehensive clinical record, including documentation of activities performed as part of the service delivery process (E. G., Assessments, provisions of service, coordination of care, discharge planning).
  • Provides continuous evaluation of the effectiveness of treatment through the ongoing assessment of the patient and input from the patient and relevant others resulting in modification to the service plan, as necessary

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree related to behavior health field (required)
  • Master’s Degree related to behavioral health field in process of obtaining.
  • Clinical Intern I = Bachelor's Degree, 0-6 months experience in the behavioral health field and/or graduate program classes incomplete.
  • Clinical Intern II = Bachelor's Degree, 6 months to 1 year experience in the behavioral health field and all classes of graduate program completed.
  • Clinical Intern III = Bachelor's Degree, 1 or more years experience in the behavioral health field and/or all classes of graduate program completed.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • CPR & First Aid (required)
  • Valid Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card (required)
  • Proof of Professional Liability Ins. (required)
  • Valid Driver’s License (required)
  • Proof of Auto Insurance (required)

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Computer skills including working knowledge of Google Docs, Sheets, and Calendar. Experience with Apple products is a plus. In addition effective interpersonal skills, ability to follow instructions, good written and verbal communication skills, time management skills, knowledge of psychiatric conditions, typing skills, and sound judgment.
